Importance of Find Your Niche before Starting Your Home Based Internet Business

Description:

Most people jump into internet business with the hype of creating wealth within a short period of time. They fail because they do not understand the importance of analysing their skills and interests to decide the niche that will suit them to succeed in the online business venture.

Content:

The best home based Internet business opportunity you will ever have is one you know and love. Combining your skills, your experience, your joys and your loves into a home based business opportunity is the best way to enjoy your life, find happiness and develop a thriving and satisfying entrepreneurship.

The key is determining what you know and what you love. For some it's easy. It's almost as if they were born signing or song writing. Perhaps they started writing short stories in first grade at their daddy's knee. There are those who started out their toddler years by taking apart and putting back together every mechanical thing they came across. These lucky folks seem to have been born into a chosen field of endeavor. But what about the rest of us? Some folks graduate from college still not sure about what they want to be and do? How do these folks decide the best home based Internet business opportunity for themselves?

The most important factor in internet marketing is to find your niche. Your niche preferably should be within your zone of expertise or interest. In case you are not sure of your strenghts and interests, you can use various online tools to help you determine your choice.

One way might be to take an online test, such as a personality or skills set assessment. Some of these are free, while most have minimal charges. There are some that offer assessment tools that can be used by therapists, counselors, teachers and other professionals to help you determine the business that would best fit with your skills set and interests.

One test offered online, for those who want to make a decision on the best home based Internet business opportunity as well as those who are trying to decide on what career to pursue working for others, is offered by a prominent higher education and training publisher and online service.

This interest and skills survey measures an individual's attraction to specific areas of occupation. It goes beyond other traditional skills inventories, however, in that it adds parallel scales of skill that are able to estimate your confidence in your ability to perform these various occupational tasks. The data is rich and comprehensive thanks to this combination of testing tools. The test can be taken in person or online, but the online version is preferred if you're working with an employment counselor or other career professional. The Web version provides a unique counselor test management system and a career planner that is expansive.

This particular testing apparatus specializes in assessment of the best home based Internet business opportunity or careers for those who have completed or plan to complete at least a four year post-secondary education. The way the assessment works is to not only produce results that tell a potential entrepreneur the best home based Internet business opportunity for her or his interest or skills but also suggest academic studies that would hone these skills and enhance her ability to succeed. The assessment also offers advice to employees who are transitioning to a business opportunity, with particular attention to displaced employees who have decided to venture out on their own.

It is wiser to spend some time and effort in researching your strengths and interests before jumping into the fray of online business with only monetary goals in mind. Your long term business success will be determined on how you can successfully find out your niche.

Your Business Or Your Life

Description:

There are always more things to do than you have the time or money to manage. How you are able to cope with this situation determines whether you have a chance of becoming a successful business owner.

Content:

When you run your own business you are your own master and your own slave.

There are always more things to do than you have the time or money to manage. How you are able to cope with this situation determines whether you have a chance of becoming a successful business owner.

Two opposing styles cause the most problems. One is doing everything your master demands of you. The other is rebelling against these demands and abusing your freedom.

Renee is her own slave. She works over eighty hours a week and eats, breathes and sleeps her business. She is determined to get every single item on her to do list completed. She
*attends several networking functions every week,
*collects business cards,
*follows up with letters about her business,
*makes all necessary phone calls,
*and does her paperwork in the middle of the night.

Customers are delighted with her services, and her business seems to be thriving, but she isn't. She is "losing it!" She is exhausted and burned out. She keeps promising her husband and children that she will take time off, but whenever she does, all she can do is sleep.

Six months after she started her business, her chronic sinus infection became so bad that her doctor suggested surgery.

Allison decided that it made sense to run her business from her home. She dutifully prepared a business plan under the guidance of her mentor. She, too, has a long to do list.

However, Allison has trouble getting started in the morning. She loves to linger over coffee, read the newspaper and do a morning exercise class. About eleven she reviews her list and gets to work.

She chooses the easy items so that she can get them out of the way. After a lunch break, and an extended phone conversation with a friend, she gets back to work. Just as she is really getting warmed up, the children arrive home from school and demand her attention.

Allison wonders why her business is getting off to such a slow start, and her savings are running out.

Renee and Allison each need to borrow some elements of the other's style.

Renee has created so much structure for herself that she almost literally has no room to breathe. She does not "have a life," only a business, and her body/mind system is breaking down under the strain. She needs to learn to prioritize and include her own personal and family needs on her to do list.

On the other hand, Allison treasures the life she is enjoying so much that she is unwilling to sacrifice very much of it to do the work necessary to make her business successful. She needs to follow the structure of her to do list and not abandon it each time something more enticing comes along.

Making these changes may be emotionally challenging for each of them. Renee derives much of her self-esteem from producing superb results, and Allison derives her satisfaction from not allowing anyone to tell her what to do, not even herself.

They will both need to reevaluate their priorities, and find a way to feel satisfied and happy with doing things differently. They will probably need friends, coaches, or support groups to help them sustain the necessary changes.

If you are or intend to become a business owner, you will need to steer a course between these extremes in order to have a business and have a life.

How To Use PPC To Build Your Opt-In List

Description:

Pay-per-click ad campaigns bring visitors to your landing page by advertising your site on strategic points on the front search results page of keywords related to your topic.

Content:

When it comes to building a subscriber base, a little bit of money goes a long way. Most paid list-building methods are relatively inexpensive, and if used properly will more than pay for themselves in a short period of time.

For every paid method of obtaining subscribers, you will need your complete site URL and a brief (one- to three-sentence) description of your site. Word your description the same way you would in your autoresponder messages: make it short, to the point, and compelling. You will also need a list of keywords you want people to be able to find your site with through search engines.

Some popular paid list-building techniques are:

PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Campaigns

Pay-per-click ad campaigns bring visitors to your landing page by advertising your site on strategic points on the front search results page of keywords related to your topic. The term "pay-per-click" refers to the way you pay for the ads: a certain amount is deducted from your account the money you put in to fund the campaign each time someone clicks on your link. The most popular PPC program is Google AdWords; basically, though, all PPC campaigns work the same way.

Here is how it works: when you sign up with AdWords, you submit a list of keywords and product descriptions. For example, if you were offering an e-book about how to increase web site profits, a list of your keywords might be: website, web site, web site profits, increase profits, internet, internet profit, online profit, online business, internet business, web site business, make money online, and so forth. Come up with as many keywords and search terms as possible so you can increase your chances of getting visitors. You may also consider including common misspellings of your most important keywords. In the previous example, possibilities would be: bizness, busness, inernet.
NOTE: You can use Google's free keyword tool to generate even more related search terms for your topic.

AdWords ads appear on the right-hand side of Google's search result pages in shaded boxes. The ads consist of four lines: the first line is the title of your ad, the last is the URL of your site, and the two middle lines are descriptive text. Length is limited 25 characters for the title, and 35 characters each for descriptive text so you should choose your wording carefully. Also, you can not use excessive punctuation (Make Lots of Cash!!!), gimmicky repetition (Money, Money, Money!), or inappropriate symbols/abbreviations (Big Bux @ my site 4 U).

AdWords operates on a pay-per-click basis. This means you pay nothing for your ads unless someone clicks on them. When you set up an AdWords account, you assign a monetary value to your keywords according to how much you are willing to pay for each click on your search terms. The minimum value you can assign to a keyword is 1 cent. You can start an account with $5, and you will never be required to put more in. However, if you find your web site traffic increasing, you may want to consider adding to your advertising budget. In addition to the minimum, you will set a maximum cost-per-click (CPC) value for your keywords. But even if you reach the maximum, the AdWords program automatically determines the lowest price you need to keep your ranking.

Yahoo! also offers a popular PPC program called Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture). The major difference between the Yahoo and the Google programs is that Yahoo requires a minimum monthly spend of $50. You may find one more effective than the other. It is always helpful to try multiple methods. More visitors means more sales!

How to Spot the Signs of Staff Stress

Description:

Entrepreneurs know they‘re going to come under pressure but too much stress can have a devastating effect on your health, your staff and ultimately your business. A new business advice survey shows you how you can spot the telltale signs of too much pressure

Content:

Small business owners know when they start out that they are likely to have to sacrifice work/life balance to make their fortunes but ignoring the signs that you or your staff are under too much strain can be devastating.
A new business advice survey by Bibby Financial Services suggests that 98% of small business owners feel stressed at work with more than one in four (26%) admitting they feel under pressure between 75% and 100% of the time.
“Many entrepreneurs go it alone because they want to be their own boss,” said David Robertson, chief executive at Bibby Financial Services. “However, it’s vital they retain a work-life balance for themselves.
“Not only does it make sound personal sense but a positive work/life balance delivers a number of business benefits including increased staff loyalty, greater motivation of employees, reduced absenteeism, attraction and retention of a talented workforce and improved customer service,” he warned.
nd there are signs that the pressure small business owners put themselves under can filter through to their staff. According to business advice research by the Office for National Statistics, just over a fifth of people in work – or 5.8m – now work over 45 hours a week while the British Medical Journal suggests that stress-related illness now accounts for more long-term sickness absence than physical injuries.
Bibby Financial Services suggests the following business advice tips to help identify the signs of stress before the issue becomes a problem:
Watch out for ‘sickies’
The most common side effects of excessive stress levels are irritability, insomnia and difficulty concentrating but more serious physical complaints such as migraines, nausea and ulcers can be caused by feelings of stress for prolonged periods of time. A rise in staff taking frequent short spells off work should be a warning bell that morale and confidence is low
Putting in the hours
Not leaving work on time at the end of the day could indicate there is too much to cope with. Staff who work under added pressure feel that they have to overcompensate for low or fluctuating concentration levels throughout the day by staying late
Paperwork pile-up
If the workspace is turning into a ‘paperwork pile-up’, it could indicate staff are feeling so under pressure they are unable to clear things up as they go about their work. This can in turn aggravate feelings of stress and increase negativity
If any of the above sounds familiar practical steps can be taken to combat the problem:
Don’t depend on long hours
Don’t start depending on your team’s long hours. The chances are they are being put in to make up for poor organisation and planning in the workplace. Get back to grass roots and look at the cause of the problem
Reward commitment
If you do need the team to go that extra mile and you don’t pay overtime, think creatively about how you can give them other rewards – such as time off in lieu and one-off bonuses – to reward commitment
Ask around
Find out about staff needs and expectations – what type of work-life balance initiatives would they prefer and how do they see it working in practice? Involving staff in the decision making process will increase the likelihood of success
Shout about it
Remember to include your commitment to work-life balance in recruitment advertising and explain your staff policies to new joiners. Ensure your policies are comprehensively explained in the staff handbook and in team briefings

Business Experience - How Much Is Enough Before Going Out On Your Own?

Description:

If you've ever wanted to start a business, you've had someone tell you to "get more experience"! But how much experience do you really need to be successful? Let me help you decide if the time is right to strike out on your own...

Content:

Many first time entrepreneurs over the years have stopped to ask themselves, "Should I get more business experience at a big company before going out on my own?"

This is true of recent college graduates who are deciding between regular job offers and a startup. This is also true of people who have been in industry for twenty years.

So how much business experience do you really need before going to work for yourself? The answer of course, is that it depends.

On the one hand, there is a lot to be said for getting a "real job". This is what I did after college, and it ultimately helped me start working for myself because it gave me the confidence to know what I really wanted.

Here are some advantages to getting more business experience:

1. It made me realize that I actually could get a job with a good salary. This might sound silly, but I guess you can think of it as a safety net. In the back of my mind, I knew that if I gave entrepreneurship my best shot and it didn't work, I could always get another job. I knew that if I was about to be so broke that I couldn't pay my rent, I'd have a backup plan.

2. Somewhere deep down I had a fear of what other people would think about me being an entrepreneur. It took me a long time to admit this to myself, but I didn't want anyone to think "he is an entrepreneur because he couldn't get a real job". The brain works in funny ways, but at least if I was quitting a good job to go out on my own, it would somehow have more credibility.

3. Seeing what I didn't want helped me discover what I did want. If I had never found out how much I hated working for someone else (the long hours, no sleep, boring work, etc) then being my own boss wouldn't seem so great! I wake up excited every morning because I know what the alternative is.

Notice that I didn't put "I got more business experience that helped me start a business" as one of the advantages. I learned a lot in my time working for other people, but I can't think of a specific skill that really helped me as an entrepreneur. It was entirely different. Of course, since I was always learning it helped me in indirect ways. I met other intelligent people, my writing got better, I networked...but you don't have to have a big corporate job to do this. I continue to do those things today just as much while working for myself.

So let's look at the other side: how could "getting more business experience" prevent you from accomplishing your ultimate goal of starting a business?

1. It's perhaps the biggest excuse in the book. "I don't have enough experience" is used by so many people for why they CAN'T start a business, and it really is just that: an excuse. In reality, the time will never be perfect to go out on your own, but entrepreneurs make it work. They realize that they'll have to learn things along the way, and probably fail at times, but that they will get it done no matter what. Quitting my job was probably one of the hardest decisions I ever made, because I was downright scared of what would happen. I was scared of failure, what people would think, etc...and "I don't have enough business experience" is a very convenient excuse in that type of situation.

2. People get stuck at their corporate jobs. The real danger of "getting more business experience" is that once you get there you won't be able to leave due to financial reasons! Often times when we are earning a good salary, and getting raises, it's easy to spend that money. You might buy a new car, and get some swanky new condo, and before you know it you've taken on debt(mortgage and car payments). The problem is that now you can't leave your job working for someone else because you've over extended yourself and can't afford to miss a single car or house payment! This is known as getting caught in the rat race, and can quickly make you a slave to your corporate job.

If you are going to go work for someone else, make a conscious effort to save your money rather than spend it. Put 25% of it away every month before you can even see that money. Build up your cash reserves, because starting a business becomes much easier when you have six months of cash in the bank to get started with.

The bottom line is this: Go to work for someone else (or stay there) for a while if you have to. I don't blame anyone who goes this route because it is exactly what I did. It will let you know if the corporate world is the right place or not, and give you the confidence to know you have a backup plan in case you should ever need to get one of those "real" jobs again. Realizing you don't like having a boss may be the only "business experience" you ever need.

But take an honest look at yourself and make sure you aren't using "I need more business experience" as an excuse not to start your company. And for goodness sake, don't start spending all the money you make there on expensive cars and houses! You could easily get stuck in a job you dislike just because you can't afford to miss a payment!

I know you'll make the right decision.

Are your Financial Decisions Becoming Stale? Here are 3 Fresh Tools to Help!

Description:

Profitable financial decisions are the very life-blood of vibrant businesses. These decisions can cover asset replacement/repair options, investment choices, advertising options, business directions, new product development and introduction and innovative work practices. These decisions all have a positive or negative impact on the viability and health of the business. Would your business be more successful if your decisions were freshened up?

Content:

There are many tools advertised to assist managers make better decisions. One of the most efficient ways to make a positive impact on tired decisions is to develop more options. More options will definitely help you make better decisions since you have more choices available. The 3 tools listed below are some of the most popular and easy to use.

Are you ready? Let's do it.

Fresh Tool #1. Random Input

This is the simplest of all creative thinking techniques. It is widely used by advertising agencies, new product teams, rock groups, playwrights, IT developers and many others. This tool was developed by Dr. Edward De Bono in 1968 but has been plagiarized and borrowed since then, often by folks who don't really know how to use it.

One way to use this technique is to compile a list of 60 words (e.g. tiger, nose, hamburger, plane, molecule, rubbish, dog, shoes etc). When you need a random word glance at your watch and note the seconds reading. Use that number to get a word from your list. We then use one of these words that has no connection with the situation and hold them both together. The mind is very powerful at linking these seemingly unconnected ideas together.

In Dr. De Bono's book "Serious Creativity" he offers the following illustration:

"Cigarette" linked with "Traffic Light". "Within a few seconds this led to the idea of printing a red band around a cigarette some distance from the butt end. This band would serve as a 'danger zone'. If you stopped smoking before you reached the band, your smoking would be safer (because the last part of the cigarette is more harmful)."

This also led to the idea of putting seeds in the butt of the cigarette so that when it was thrown away in a garden or park, flowers would grow out of the butt end.

Do you feel that you have completely run out of ideas and your usual ways no longer work well? Does it seem impossible to get new ideas? Put in a random word and it will open up new lines of thought immediately.

Fresh Tool #2. Six Thinking Hats

This is another of Dr. De Bono's tried and tested methods. Again, it is extremely simple, but powerful. This method has been used by IBM, Prudential, Nippon Telephone and Telegraph and many other businesses world-wide.

The theory is as follows:

The Six Thinking Hats allows one to get away from the Western tradition of argument that says 'A' has a point of view but 'B' disagrees. There are six hats, each designed to represent a way of thinking about a problem.

White Hat - think of white paper - neutral - carries information, data and information

Red Hat - think of fire and warmth - feelings, emotions, hunches and intuition

Black Hat - think of stern judge - black robes, black hat is for critical judgment

Yellow Hat - think of sunshine - optimism, feasibility and how things can be done

Green Hat - think of vegetation and rich growth, creative thinking, new ideas, additional alternatives

Blue Hat - think of blue sky - overview, process control, sets agenda for thinking, summaries, conclusions

Both 'A' and 'B' can wear the black hat at the same time to find the dangers in an idea. They can both wear a Yellow Hat to to explore the benefits. That way all members of the discussion can be thinking in the same way for a period of time without the need to argue and take sides. The organizer can decide when to change the hats and all agree to abide by his/her rulings.

Fresh Tool #3. S.C.A.M.P.E.R.

Apply SCAMPER to the problem you wish to solve or your specific situation.

You can use each of the letters of this word SCAMPER as follows:

S – Substitute (can you apply something else)
C – Combine (can you mix in something, add)
A – Adapt (can anything be changed, modified)

Publishing A Newsletter, Some Things To Think About

Description:

When publishing a newsletter, there are a few things that you must take into consideratiion before you should start.

Content:

Publishing a newsletter can help your business go from rags to riches. Not only can building an opt in list with your newsletter boost traffic to your website, it is also a widely used form of marketing that when used correctly, can help you generate sales and sign ups.

Your newsletter is like an ongoing promotion for your products. Give your subscribers valuable information and resources. You can also use your newsletter to keep your subscribers up to speed on news and upcomming events.

When you publish a newsletter, you are being seen as someone that has information. In other words, your subscribers will be impressed with you and view you as an expert in your field or niche. Word of mouth will happen as subscribers tell others about your newsletter and your subscriber base will grow virally.

If you have not started you newsletter yet, you are losing money every minute as you are reading this article. Sit with pen and paper and write some topics that your first published newsletter will contain. It will takes some hard work to get started, but once you get in a groove, your issues will become easier and easier to publish.

Getting started is the hardest step: Remember that this will be beneficial for your business and income.

1) What Should your newsletter be about?
Well, is your website about cats? If your website is all about cats and that is your area of expertise, than that is what your newsletter`s content will center on. One you have decided what your subscribers want information about from you, you are past the first step of the newsletter process.

Remember that your visitors will be your future customers. What info were they hoping to get from your newsletter about cats? This is a pretty wide topic. Your newsletter could easily cover types of species, cat health, cat supplies, cat stories. I would think that including some info about each topic would make for an informative newsletter for your subscribers and they would be thankfull for the free info.

2) Your articles should be the main body of your newsletter. You can add smaller sections for updates and short info snippets. Although not everyone can be a writer. You should always spell check and format your newsletter to look professional. It will only take a minute or so to edit any errors and the results will give you a clean and concise looking newsletter.

3) Make sure and provide your subscribers with factual information. If not you will lose subscribers faster than they can sign up to an optin form. Research is always a critical tool for you as a publisher. Time invested in research will pay off, when your readers are impressed by your knowledge and expertise.

4) Keeping subscribers waiting for their next issue from you is very important. You want to keep your subscribers excited when your newsletter arrives. One way of ensuring this is to always use fresh articles and content in your newsletter. If you republish old articles and content, your readers will catch on and become disinterested in your newsletter. The whole point is to get more subscribers and keep them until they become customers, not to lose them right off the bat.

5) When publishing a newsletter, always make sure to give credit where credit is due. If you do use other authors articles with their permission. You must include their name as author and all their authors resource info. Failure to do so is Plagarism and can get you into legal troubles. If you write your own articles give your products and business a plug somewhere at the bottom of the articles.

Publishing your own newslettr can be challenging at first, but financially rewarding as you master this form of marketing.

Casualness in Modern Office Furniture

Description:

The quest for modernity in the work environment has meant compromise on the unique graceful furniture that adorns the four walls of the office. Read on to assess the benefits of having traditional furniture for the work place without any prejudice against the modern furniture.

Content:

The modern offices demand an economic outlook. With everything so mindlessly attached to the economics of the workplace, often, the looks and style, reminiscent of classical craftsmanship, are ignored while furnishing the office. The grace and aura associated with Amish made furniture is sadly missing in the workman-like environment in the modern offices.

The modern offices are being increasingly approached in a mechanical way. The normal approach these days is on the following lines – settle on a business idea, design a market strategy, select the office premises, hire an interior decorator and leave it to him for setting up the work place. The enthusiasm that was pervasive in the establishment of offices in the good ol’ days is conspicuous by its absence. Now, all the energies are directed towards devising a marketing strategy that could multiply the profits within hours!

It is this very approach that is responsible for the mushrooming of identical work places. The one USP that sets your office apart from the rest is missing. And all this due to ignorance about the vitality of a work place in the success of any venture. Take, for instance, the office furniture. The desks, tables and chairs are getting increasingly meaner. To put it in other words, more is being pushed into the office than its appropriate capacity.

The economic multiple cubicles have replaced the separate rooms. Where, earlier, a single person was accommodated in the room, the cubicles, with all the compact furniture in place, now offer seating for at least three officials in the same area! The furniture used in the modern offices makes all the difference. A desk, with those drawers and shelves, made of solid Amish Oak furniture can lend the missing grace to your office environment. Instead of compact plywood tables, the durable Amish furniture should be your ideal choice.

The reason for relying on the Amish made furniture is simple. The craftsmanship shown by Amish artisans, with all the toil and labor that goes into making a single article, is not only unique but classy also. The Amish handcrafted furniture provides a visual treat to the visitors as well as a rejuvenating feeling to the employees. The results are obvious – enhanced productivity from the employees, improved goodwill of the concern and obviously, more business from the present as well as the prospective clients.

This is just a proverbial tip of the iceberg! The modern business houses are losing out on big businesses due to low priority being accorded to the office furnishings. The full potential of the employees is not forthcoming, as they don’t look forward to go to their workplaces first thing in the morning. Good furnishings at the workplace can make even a mediocre concern look better than its rivals.

Not for a second am I suggesting that the modern office furniture is good for nothing. It has merits of its own. The most important thing to realize is the suitability of the kind of furniture required in a work place. It’s all about selecting the right piece for the right place. Moreover, a blend of orthodox furniture and the modern compact furniture can work wonders for the reputation of an office.

Dressing for the Job

Description:

Given that first impressions can greatly influence a hiring decision, the manner in which you present yourself during an interview can make a big difference in your ability to advance further into the interviewing process.

Content:

Whether you are an executive, an assistant, in retail or in sales, consider your clothes as business tools that can impact your performance and further your career. Always dress for the job you want and the impression you want to give.

Assess your potential work environment. If you're in a creative industry there's room for more personality in the way you dress. But creativity does not mean sexy. Sexy is inappropriate in the workplace and it is essential to make that "first impression “ count. Never let your clothes get in the way of expressing your message.

Dress codes are often changing in today's work environment.

Wardrobe Propriety
In a conservative work place, a smart suit is required but in a business appropriate environment there's more flexibility, it's more of a tailored look. The key factor remains that no matter what industry you are in it is important to dress appropriately, smartly and conservative.

Business Casual
Business casual does not mean weekend clothes. Fitting is important, quality tailored clothes are essential. Attention to details is essential, good quality shoes, good belt and good bag.

This is important even in a casual working environment, and finding a comfortable pair shoes for the workplace is essential, especially if you have a job that requires long periods of being on your feet or various meetings with clients and colleges. As any office worker knows finding the correct footwear is essential but this can be a challenge.
.
Business Wardrobe Organization
First assess your business wardrobe. Get into your closet. What do you have? Take all of your business clothes and hang them in a specific area of your closet, check out your selection of shoes what matches what? Plan out your day the night before.

It is as important to strategise your business wardrobe, as it is to strategise a good interview and business presentation. The biggest mistake you can make is not taking your business wardrobe seriously. Consider yourself the brand and your clothes the packaging.

Look at your clothes. Think about what impression you want to give, what you're going to be doing and who you are going to meet the next day. Pull out an outfit and try it on to see if it still fits, it may have been a while since you last wore it.

This kind of preparation will help you to be prepared at all times, to look your best and perform adequately on the job no matter what the circumstances are.

One of the many ways, and probably the most effective that we choose to express ourselves is through the colour and style of our clothing. This expression is intended to make the maximum, and most powerful impact as possible.

Our clothing selection and choice of shoes do not simply cover the body and protect us from the elements, they make a visual statement and advertisement abut how we view ourselves. Clothes reinforce our self-image and help to define who we are.

They can boost our confidence when we look good, but when we get it wrong they can sap that confidence just as quickly.

Getting Started on your Employee Performance Management Initiative: Six Questions Every Hr Pro Should Answer

Description:

SumTotal recently surveyed a global sample of more than 20,000 HR professionals on these six crucial aspects of EPM, and found a common dilemma — tremendous need for online employee performance management tools, thwarted by a lack of resources.

Content:

If you’re an HR professional looking to start an Employee Performance Management initiative in the next year, most consultants would recommend that you ask these key questions:

1. What is your current EPM process?

2. What’s driving your EPM needs?

3. In your organization, what are the most important features of an EPM?

4. Would you expect to integrate with other HR systems?

5. What challenges would you expect to face in getting your initiative started?

6. How would you deploy your EPM?

A recently survey of a global sample of more than 20,000 HR professionals on these six crucial aspects of EPM, and found a common dilemma — tremendous need for online employee performance management tools, thwarted by a lack of resources. This isn’t surprising considering the current statistics: According to the Bersin & Associates Performance Management 2006 Study, “only 32% of organizations have a consistent, enterprise-wide approach to this important business process.” 1

Respondents to our survey, though overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the possibility of implementing Employee Performance Management (EPM) software, cited internal time, resources, and budget as enormous barriers. The majority also preferred software installed on their own servers — but this approach is the most taxing to already-stretched internal resources. The solution: Business Process Outsourcing may be the most cost-effective way to remove the burden from your IT and HR teams.

Take a look at the details.

Types Of Resumes

Description:

There are three main types of resumes you may consider submitting during your job search. The three types of resumes are called functional, chronological, or a combination of the two.

Content:

There are three main types of resumes you may consider submitting during your job search. The three types of resumes are called functional, chronological, or a combination of the two.

The Functional Resume

This type of resume is usually submitted when you want to put more emphasis on the qualifications and skills obtained during your previous employment. It involves writing a detailed explanation about the experiences you have had that are related to the job you are applying for. Unlike the chronological resume, the main importance of this resume is to outline how well suited you are for the job based on your experience and accomplishments.

The Chronological Resume

The chronological resume is the format that most employers are familiar with. It involves listing in chronological order, the previous jobs held. The chronological resume is usually used to first show your previous employment, promotions, increases in responsibility and other accomplishments. It differs from the functional resume in that the previous employment and accomplishments are dealt with separately.

The Combined Resume

The combined resume is used to incorporate features of both the functional resume and the chronological resume. It uses the best components of each type of resume. The combined type of resume can be described as a resume that places emphasis on your qualifications and skills but in chronological order. Therefore, it will differ from the functional resume in that it lists employment in a chronological order. However, it will differ from the chronological resume by having more emphasis on your skills and accomplishments, and not discussing these components separately.

The Type To Use

It should be stated that the type of resume you submit would depend on the type of job you are seeking. Many employers prefer the functional resume because they are more familiar with it since it is the most common type of resume. You may consider creating resumes of each type and use them to meet the expectations of a particular employer. Generally, if you are responding to an advertised position you can get some idea of what the prospective employer expects from the applicant.

Knowledge Is Power: The Search For Accurate Information On The Competition

Description:

Content:

These days, when it comes to seeking out information, most people turn to their computers to do the work for them. "Surfing the Net" has become a routine way of gathering necessary data, facts, and other such knowledge. Need directions to your Aunt Susie's friend's garage sale? Head to mapquest.com and you're likely to find a customized map, tailored to your specifications. Can't remember what macerate means? Dictionary.com will remind you. In fact, these days, people use the Internet to search for answers to nearly any and every imaginable query, including information on business competition.

But how sure are you that the information you are obtaining via the World Wide Web is as accurate as it could be? What exactly do you sacrifice in the name of convenience? I, for example, have been steered astray on more than one occasion by the almighty Map Quest. And, although Dictionary.com is helpful, it certainly isn't able to replace the vast resources available at your local library. Speaking of local libraries, even they have taken content online. AccessMyLibrary (www.AccessMyLibrary.com) is a site from Thomson Gale featuring free access to over 15 million articles from leading as well as trade/interest specific publications and journals.

Powerful and accurate online resources do exist, though they are often buried beneath a virtual layer of illegitimate websites and flashing advertisements informing you that you are, in fact, the winner of a new pink Motorola RAZR phone. Lucky you.

However, if you are searching for information on your company's competitors, chances are you'd like that information to be as accurate and as easy to obtain as possible, a feat that is likely far more difficult than it should be. However, sites like ECNext's Goliath (www.goliath.ecnext.com) simplify this task by providing you with clear, accurate company profiles, industry information and market reports as well as business news, resources, leads and more. Essentially, the site does your homework for you.

I probably don't need to remind you that this sort of information can be imperative to the success of your business. According to Steve Strauss, Business Expert for Microsoft Small Business Center, "if you want to succeed in business, doing your homework is critical. Knowing what the competition does right (and wrong), what they charge for their products or services, and where they seem to be headed can give your business a significant boost."

Dawn Rosenberg McKay, writer for Career Planning at about.com, agrees: "It's important to keep up with business news about the industry in which you're working or are considering working. It's good business practice to be well informed about your clients' industries as well. It will help you stay ahead of the competition."

The accuracy and depth of this information is often the key to a successful business. Being aware of your competitor's strengths and weaknesses is an invaluable learning tool. In the opinion of Warren Struhl, writer for Inc.com, "the more information you have, the better position you will be in to propel your business forward. So don't become the entrepreneur that says, 'If I only knew that before I started.' Stay informed and you'll be building a platform for success."

Essentially, using the Internet to gain pertinent information can be an effective process, but it can just as easily yield inaccurate and out-of-date information. Valuable corporate information is out there and ripe for the picking. You just have to know where to look.

Your covering letter sample (British), also commonly known as a cover letter sample (American), is something that you need to pay attention to if you really want to make sure that you are going to be seriously considered for the job you are aiming to apply for. The covering letter sample is something that requires not just a simple copying from several available and downloadable templates, but it is something that you must labor on as much as you have worked on beefing up your resume.

A rule of thumb is that covering letter samples must never be generic. You must get over this common mistake that most people make when constructing their covering letter sample. Dare to go beyond the generic and do something more specific. Many people are afraid to show their goods in their covering letter sample. But actually, this is big mistake. The covering letter sample is the best way to be able to communicate to your potential employer that you are capable, experienced and highly qualified for the job. This is also the time to capitalize on your strengths. But make sure that what you will be placing in your covering letter sample is something that you can clearly justify and deliver to your client should he or she ask for it. For example, if you say that you have a certain skill that is good for the job you are applying for, be willing to attach samples that will prove this. Training certifications, writeup and similar materials are valuable supplements to your claims in the covering letter sample.

In making more specific covering letter samples, it must be something that is customized to your individual needs. Your individual needs must stand out in your covering letter samples. Remember that the person who will be reviewing your covering letter sample is a human being also, and you should keep everything short and bearable for them. Furthermore, you will have to consider that the person receiving your covering letter must have been filtering through various covering letters from other applicants who are just as eager to get the job. Your letter needs to stand out and not just be one of those covering letters which are destined for the trash can.

Polish with the basics of your covering letter samples. Typographical errors are simply not acceptable. You will also have to make sure that your paper is clean, the text is readable and the spacings are amply placed. It must not look too crowded nor too scant. Make the best use of the paper and use black ink for formality. Check for grammar consistency and all the other minor details that comprise your covering letter. Be constantly reminded that the person who will read your covering letter may or may not have seen you in person prior to reading your letter. Make a good first impression and leave no minor details hanging or erroneous.

The content of your covering letter must be meaty, and at the same time, concise. The covering letter sample must not be overflowing with details. But you must provide enough that the person reading it will want to know you more with it. Selectively pick the details in your resume that you consider to be worth highlighting and put them in your covering letter as a way of introducing yourself. Limit yourself to a single page and do not go beyond that. Few people would really take the time to reach page two. Chances are, they will have already formed their judgment of you right after they reach past the first paragraph.

While you are at it, do not forget to attach your resume in your covering letter sample. Mention briefly your attachment in your covering letter sample.

Why you Hate your Job?

Description:

Do you really need me to tell you why you hate your job or will I just be confirming what you already know.

Content:

Keji Giwa

Most people don’t look forward to work on Monday, I wonder why. Most people can’t wait to take a holiday, what’s wrong with work? Most people can’t wait until it’s 5:30pm or mentally they stop work at 3pm. Where does this lack of motivation come from? Could it be that you actually hate your job.

Do you really hate your job?

Ok! Ok!! Ok!!! I will not make it any worse that it already is. Yes! You hate your job; why else would you read this little article on “Why you hate your job”.

In fact, how many times have we used the phrase “hate your job”?

The question I need to ask you is this:

Are you being true to yourself? Are you deceiving yourself by doing a job that pays the bills, gives you an average style of living, status and temporary friends who will not bend over backwards to be by your side when you need them most?

Can I rephrase this a little clearer, are you too scared to be all you can be because a job that pays the bills is more important to you than happiness, fulfillment and peace of mind.

If your answer to this question is “yes”, then you need to know how unsecured your job really is.

How unsecured is my job? You hate your job but it pays the bills and allows you to barely get by on a monthly basis.

There is a problem! How can you ever be promoted, when as soon as you get to work, you can’t wait to leave.

When the company faces a crisis, who’s job do you think will go first, will it be the job of the one who just does all he can to get by or the one who puts his whole heart, passion, talent and perfected skills to the benefit of the company.

If you are not passionate about your job and your job does not compliment your talents and natural abilities, then not only will you hate going to work but work will also hate you and inevitably, one of you will have to let go someday.

Stop looking for a job because it pays your bills or because it can give you an average life style. You’ll only end up being miserable, spent and end up with a mediocre life.

Have a look at the stars, Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta Jones and many more. Do you think they hate their job?

Do you know why they probably look forward to work?

I bet it’s not mainly because of the money. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is due to the fact that not only are they talented and gifted at what they do, they are also passionate about it. As a result, they give it their best and you spend your wages to go and watch them live out their dreams after a day’s work of frustration and heartache.

Are you living your dreams based on your passion, true talents and gifts, or are you just getting paid to do what you’ve been told to do?

Get a life, get your dream job.

Your dream job is defined as a job that allows you to exercise your true talents and gifts based on your passions and interests.

What is it that you can do so well, it requires so little effort; it’s just a natural thing for you?

What is it that you are so passionate about, once you get started on it, it’s almost impossible to shut you up?

What is your conscience saying to you every single day of your life? Each day you sit on your desk, reluctant to make the next move?

“James! You know you should be a presenter.”

“Sharon! Why don’t you try getting a job as a Beauty Consultant, you know you are crazy about the fashion industry.”

“David! It’s only a matter of time before you start looking for another job. You know you would be happier working as an investment banker.”

“Lucy, you’ve always wanted to be a Management Consultant, what are you doing here?”

Your conscience is the only voice that isn’t afraid to make a change. It has never lied to you nor deceived you. Why don’t you listen to it?

Make a choice today and make the defiant move that will change your life for the best.

Be All You Can Be!!

Are You Working Hard To Make Someone Else Rich?

Description:

Are you working hard to make someone else rich while you struggle to feed your family?

Content:

Vic, Jacob and Kee - friends of mine - have something in common. They lost their jobs at different times over the last three years. All of them were highly qualified, hard-working, nice family men in senior positions. They gave their all to their respective companies and made sacrifices beyond the call of duty thinking they would be duly rewarded for their loyalty and hard work. These gentlemen walked into their offices one day and were asked to leave. The reasons for their lay-offs ranged from policy change to down-sizing. Neither of them expected it.

Vic and his family had grown accustomed to the good life and losing his job was a huge blow. Jacob didn't have time to panic. He had a family to feed and since he had been dipping into his savings for two years because of three prior pay cuts, he had very little left. Kee was more fortunate. His wife was already running a day-care center and they at least had some form of income even though losing his job meant losing sixty percent of their gross monthly earnings.

While Vic, Jacob and Kee struggled to recover lost ground, their bosses continued to live the good life, oblivious to the suffering of these men and their families who contributed to their wealth. When my three friends found themselves dangling at the end of their ropes, one thing became apparent - they regretted that had given the best years of their lives and sacrificed so much to make their bosses rich. What they probably regretted more than that was neglecting their own financial well-being while MAKING SOMEONE ELSE RICH.

Statistics reveal a frightening fact that more than 80 percent of the global workforce will experience down-sizing directly or indirectly at least once in their working life. Many people are simply at the mercy of market forces and corporate decision-making. We've been conditioned from our childhood to study hard, get a good job and work hard. But just where does the hard work stop? Do the rewards justify the time and effort that we put in? Are our bosses getting rich while we struggle to feed our families?

If you're experiencing one or more of the following, then you may need to re-assess your goals in life and consider if it's worth your while working your heart out to make someone else rich.

•You're spending more time at your job without any significant rise in salary or benefits not because you love your job but because you HAVE to.

•Your relationship with your family is deteriorating because you're giving your quality time to your job.

•Your family has to make do with less because your salary isn't enough to cover those little extras that help to make life more enjoyable.

•Your health is affected by the pressures and demands of your career.

•You're taking pay-cuts and extra work because you're company is in a financial crisis or you're at risk of losing your job.

If more than one of the above describes your current situation, then maybe it's time to open your eyes. See the whole world is your oyster instead of harvesting it for others. Money making opportunities are plentiful, but only for those who dare to try. You do NOT need to spend your daily existence fearfully holding on to a job that you hate. Why envy others who have more than you when you have the potential within yourself to achieve all that you desire?

Nobody's asking you to quit your job this instance, but sadly, many people end their careers with very little to show for their effort. They've spent their entire working lives, making someone else rich! The first step to breaking free from this cycle is to realize that you DO have a right to MAKE YOURSELF RICH!
