Shipping to the UK and Europe from China

Description:

The costs and logistics of shipping from China to the UK can be intimidating for inexperienced importers who don't know what to expect. The wide variety of shipping rates just adds to the confusion - it's very difficult to tell what ‘reasonable' costs actually are.

The costs and logistics of shipping from China to the UK can be intimidating for inexperienced importers who don't know what to expect. The wide variety of shipping rates just adds to the confusion - it's very difficult to tell what ‘reasonable' costs actually are.

The first thing any new importer needs to do is make some inquiries. Don't forget to shop around for shipping rates before selecting a wholesaler.

I also recommend finding out the following details when you are arranging shipping:

* Is there an inland freight charge to get to from the wholesale warehouse to port?
* Is there a duty payable on the product?
* Are there any restrictions on bringing this product to the UK?
* Request the tariff number from the shipping agent.
* Ask the shipping agent to quote you on the shipping cost, including any clearance document costs.
* How are you going to pick up the stock once it arrives? How much will this cost?

My tips to NZ and Australian importers apply here as well: make an effort to bargain with the wholesaler over shipping costs. If they seem unwilling, tell them that you are shopping around to find the best deal!

After you have been trading with the wholesaler and/or shipper successfully for some time, inquire about lower rates for frequent customers. Most won't offer if you don't ask.

And another thing: everything imported into the UK from outside the EU is subject to VAT of 17.5%. This applies to everyone, not just VAT registered companies. If you aren't VAT registered, you will have to get a PSEUDO TURN number. Your goods won't get clearance without one.

I think that the most useful site for finding information on this topic is HM Revenue and Customs http://www.hmrc.gov.uk. Download the PDF's ‘Introduction to Import and Export' and ‘Guide to Importing and Exporting: Breaking down the Barriers', these should cover most of what you need to know.

Let us know if you have any questions at all!

If you have started a business online with or without your own web site, you are familiar with the pain of patiently waiting for that steady income to start rolling in like the “internet gurus” claim it will. There are ways how to earn cash online and everyone has a right to a decent living. If you choose to earn your income from an Internet business, you need to be realistic.

Starting an online business is not unlike starting an offline business; you will be required to put in a similar amount of effort. The Internet is not quite as easy as it is projected by so many online promotions and you will not begin earn immediately. However, it is reasonable to say that you may begin earning within the same year.

There are also many advantages to an online business, you can stay at home, there are no rental fees, no day care fees, more family time, etc. The amount of extra income you earn online will depend on the amount of time you put into your business.

There are many ways how to earn cash online; I have listed only 4 here.

1. Google Adsense or Yahoo Ads

If you have your own web site you could consider putting up some Google Adsense ads. Adsense links will help your visitors who are searching for information by providing additional links to sites that are related to the information they are looking for. This will help you as a website owner to earn revenue.

Before placing any Adsense on your website you will need to qualify for the Adsense program first. Ideally, it will be best to launch your website without the ads and pure content only. Once you have some good quality content you can then apply for Adsense ads and once approved you can proceed by placing the script blocks, which Google provides, onto your site.

In your Google account they will show you Adsense optimization tips and where to best place your ads, ultimately improving the number of clicks by your visitors on these ads. If your site focuses on one niche area and you follow the Search Engine Optimization tips in order to get traffic, you can be assured to make a decent income from Adsense.

Yahoo also has a similar program, however you are not entitled to have both Google and Yahoo ads on your pages. Reportedly, Yahoo does pay more for their ads than Google does, but in the end the choice is only yours.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is another way of earning money. You do not have to have a website, just send traffic to your affiliate link. When someone clicks on your affiliate link and makes a purchase you will receive a percentage of the purchase. Some merchant’s websites will track the user via cookies, in the event that if the user decides not to buy right away but at a later date, you will still get the commission.

It is advisable to read through the merchant’s terms before promoting any of their products, you want to do business with someone who will pay you and not a fraud.

Your best bet is to sign-up to Clickbank.com or Commission Junction. They are affiliate program sites in which payments go directly through them so you do not have to worry about getting your commission. All you have to do is become a member, choose the product you wish to promote and they will take care of getting your money to you.

3. Selling Products on Auction Sites

You can sell physical or info products at auction sites and make a good living. Info products are any e-books that have the information in it that someone may be looking for.

If you decide to write an e-book on a specific topic but are not an expert in that area, you can register to resell rights websites. You will be able to get many info products from these websites and sell them as your own.

Try and sell your visitors products that they are seeking, not what you want to sell them. If you can do this, you will be almost sure to get a repeat customer.

4. Online Surveys

Some other ways how to earn cash online are filling out surveys or online data entry. There are a few legitimate sites offering such businesses, but be careful with the sites that demand money from you to start working.

However you look at it, there are many ways how to earn cash online, just do not expect quick riches. Be patient and persistent and it will happen.

A Typical Day Working For a Tyrant

Description:

Working for a difficult boss is one of the most difficult tasks you can face at work. Nothing compares to working for a tyrant.

Content:

The alarm goes off at 5:30 am. Immediately you feel that old familiar sense of doom which can only mean it is time to go to work. Despite these feelings of fear, dread and anxiety you drag yourself into the office ready to face another day of lunacy. Your heart skips a beat as the elevator stops at the second floor of the parking garage. Please do not let it be him. If there is one thing you cannot stand it is talking to the tyrant first thing in the morning. You are in luck. It is not him.

As you walk to your office you notice his door is open which means he has already arrived. You cringe as you log into your email dreading the 7 messages you know the maniac has already sent you this morning. You decide its best to wait a while before reading them. After all it is better to be at work at least thirty minutes before you read the ranting of a lunatic. Unfortunately, your procrastination proves futile. The impatient tyrant comes by at 8:30 to see if you have the answers to his questions. You can tell by the wild look in his eyes he has probably made the trip by your office at least a dozen times since 7:00 am.

It is a typical exchange. You are bombarded with ridiculous demands, insults, innuendos, veil threats and anything else the tyrant can pull out of his bag of tricks. You try to defend yourself but the sheer volume of the insults overwhelms you. Miraculously, you survive another storm and he walks off muttering his disdain at your incompetence.

You go ahead and review the emails only to find that his question makes absolutely no sense. It is obvious he did not read the request that he forwarded to you because it clearly should go to another department. You have already talked with him twice about this one issue. Apparently he cannot comprehend or remember anything you talk about which corroborates your belief that he has the brain capacity of a field mouse.

It is 2:00 and the secretary interrupts the monthly close meeting you are having in your office because the tyrant wants to see all the managers and directors for an important discussion. You apologize to your colleagues for the interruption as you reluctantly walk to the corner office. You arrive to find the door closed so you stand around with the other participants wondering what kind of treat you are in for today. By now fifteen minutes have gone by and you are becoming extremely agitated because the host of this fiasco is in another meeting. Disgusted, everyone returns to their respective office waiting to be summoned once again.

Finally, after 30 minutes the secretary comes by to tell everyone that he is ready for them now. Once again, you walk back down and take a seat. To everyones surprise the tyrant is not in his office. Apparently he needed some time to collect his thoughts before the big meeting. Finally, he returns ready to discuss what can only be a very important topic. I mean it has to be important because he has wasted four peoples time for the past hour. You can hardly wait. You are overflowing with anxiety and can hardly contain yourself. Here it comes. It is going to be ground breaking. And then he speaks. Do you think we need a sign-out board so that we can keep track of where everyone is? You can only hope that your face does not look anywhere near as red as it feels. You look around at the other participants who seem to be hiding their nausea better than you. You start explaining why you do not think it is a good idea. Everyone else sees that his mind is made up and that arguing is pointless. Unfortunately, you cannot stop yourself. You keep arguing and arguing hoping you can talk some sense into this buffoon. You fail to realize this is his way of informing you of the new requirement and he really does not want anything but your agreement.

Monday morning you arrive early to get a jump start on your work load. As you round the corner something new catches your eye. There it is sitting right on the wall for all to see. It has the name of everyone in the department along with a little magnetic dot to move from IN to OUT. It even has a pen attached with Velcro so you can write an explanation of why you cannot be found.

You feel distraught because now there is one more mindless administrative task the tyrant can hound you about. I noticed you failed to move your dot to OUT when you left yesterday. I noticed you were in a meeting but nothing was written on the board. You learn to appreciate this almost as much as when he tells you that your time sheet does not reflect the day you left an hour early. After all, it is not like you worked 350 overtime hours last year or anything.

As you are being lectured about a $2 phone call on your expense report you cannot help but wonder why someone who makes $200,000 a year does not have something more important to be doing. You smile as you are calculating a $10 million tax adjustment knowing the tyrant is busy recalculating the secretarys expense report mileage because he thinks she is 4 miles off. Despite your outrage you return to work the next day and start the insanity all over again.

The Secret to Sales Marketing Success

Description:

One concept in sales marketing that is so under used but will bring you out of sales mediocrity to fortune and fame is a Unique Selling Proposition or USP. Focusing on the USP in every advertising and marketing effort is the key to creating super successful products and services.

Content:

One concept in sales marketing that is so under used but will bring you out of sales mediocrity to fortune and fame is a Unique Selling Proposition or USP. Focusing on the USP in every advertising and marketing effort is the key to creating super successful products and services.

The one main reason you need to craft a powerful USP is a problem which faces most company's today, fierce competition for your product or service. Look around at the numerous choices you have when purchasing cars, televisions, cell phones, food items. You are bombarded every day with sales marketing messages and the ones that are unique ultimately get your attention.

So your USP must make your product or service stand out from the crowd.

You have to stand for something that prospects can reduce to a simple concept and store somewhere in their mind, saying, "That's you. You will bring me these benefits. You will solve these problems for me without these frustrations."

Customers don't want to remember a thousand things about you. They just want to remember something simple and important, what you will do for them. Something problem solving, something benefit producing, something relevant to their interests.

You must try to get into your customer's mind as being first. You want to become the biggest or best at something. You want to become known as "number one" for providing some benefit they desire.

This is a key sales marketing principle. If you are seeking to dominate a market in a competitive environment, one of the best things you can do is to be first in your customer's mind.

If you can lay claim in a customer's mind as being first for some special feature, promise or benefit before everyone else claims it, then in their minds you can "own" that sales marketing promise. You can be "the person," "the product" or "the business" that satisfies that particular claim.

All you have to then do is live up to your reputation - and maintain your product's quality or your services as you promised so that this belief manifests in fact and is continually supported.

Just imagine what would have happened if M&M candies melted in your hand!

Live up to your reputation and you'll quickly own a secure spot in a customer's mind that will be hard to displace.

To become first in your customer's mind you must paint a simple, memorable, consistent and appealing picture of who you are, what you stand for, and what you're going to do that's attractive and compelling to them. You must make an outrageously exciting promise of service or benefit to the customer. Furthermore, you must make it abundantly clear how you're unique and dramatically different from everyone else in delivering on those benefits, and everything you say must be entirely believable.

Basically, your USP is a distinct, compelling difference that separates you from all your competitors and answers the question, "Why should I do business with you rather than your competitors . or rather than doing nothing at all?"

If you construct an attractive USP and then plaster it everywhere in your advertising and sales marketing, and if you consistently keep hammering away at presenting your USP over and over again to the consumer's mind, in time you will gain the majority of market-share for your product or service. It takes patience, but it's been done time and time again.

Dominoes did it with their now famous USP:

"Hot, fresh pizza delivered in 30 minutes or less, guaranteed."

Then they topped it off with another great sales marketing idea, a guarantee.

By developing a strong USP you will have established the perfect means to win business from your competitors, put a stop to all the negotiations with clients about your prices, and build a brand image that can rocket you to stardom. It's all about building a USP.

Is It Time To Outsource. What Your Business Coach Thinks

Description:

There are 24 hours in the day, and you can't change that no matter who you are. Most executives simply try to work more in order to accomplish more

Content:

There are 24 hours in the day, and you can't change that no matter who you are. Most executives simply try to work more in order to accomplish more. That's a dangerous way to get more done, and a slippery slope - eventually you'll run out of hours to work in the day, and you'll find yourself burnt out when it happens. "Give me a lever long enough, and I can move the world," said Archimedes. Well, outsourcing is a way of leveraging your time and manpower for maximum efficiency. Perhaps it's time to consider outsourcing as a way of managing your own resources.

What's your business's most valuable asset? You are. The first thing is you have to figure out is where in your organization you're doing the most important work. Where are you needed most? Prioritize that job; you should be spending most of your time focused on your most valued skill. Take a look at areas where you're spending time that could be better used elsewhere bookkeeping and payroll? Public relations? Advertising? These are all jobs that could be outsourced. Yes, it'll cost money but how valuable is the time that you're losing by splitting your focus on jobs that could be done elsewhere?

Basically, if a job is keeping you from doing your most important tasks, think about outsourcing. The same holds true for jobs that are so important that, if done wrong, they could have a negative impact on your business. Hire a tax professional rather than doing your own taxes and payroll. If you're managing the mailing labels for your catalogs when you should be on the phone with customers, hire someone else to do that. If you're crawling under the desk fixing a computer instead of meeting a client, it's time to hire someone else to do your IT work. Even hiring a janitor can save you hundreds of valuable work hours each year if you find yourself restocking toilet paper and emptying wastebaskets!

When looking to outsource, look for vendors who have a good track record in their field you won't save money in the long run if you hire someone cheap who does a lousy job. One of the main reasons you're considering outsourcing, after all, is to allow your business to focus on what you do best, so make sure the vendors you hire are just as good at what they do, whether it's taxes or PR. Make sure that you trust them before you hire them learn as much as you can about your outsourcing vendor before signing the contract.

When outsourcing, also remember that customer service is key. You'll be depending on them to provide an important service that your company needs so that it can run efficiently. Make sure that they understand your needs, but have realistic expectations of what they can do, including what services they can provide and what their schedule will be. Hiring a good vendor to handle your business needs will make your work much easier but fighting on the phone with a vendor who isn't delivering what you require will make your job even more difficult than it was before.

Even the smallest businesses can benefit from well-considered outsourcing, whether it's a local payroll operation, coffee delivery or a janitorial service. Look at your budget, think about where you're spending time that would be better used elsewhere, and pick a reliable, experienced vendor who can pick up the slack so you can do the valuable work that you need to do.

Audit Your Actions for the Best Year Ever
by: Beryl Powell

You have declared this year to be the best year yet for your business and you set what you thought were great business and marketing goals. Now half-way through January you are not so sure. It seems the vision you had when you launched your business has changed. Now your goals do not fit the new vision for your business. What’s a small business owner to do?

Well, start by reviewing last year. What did you do to generate revenue? What did you do to keep in touch with your clients? What was your message to potential clients? What did you do to build alliances? Did it work? What should be done differently? What should be scraped and never tried again?

Now take a look at your mission statement. Does it still state who your company is, what you stand for and why you do it? Remember your mission statement is a statement of purpose. It’s your calling.

Revise your vision statement so that you are actually working to achieve what you truly want. Your vision statement should be based on the best possible outcome you can imagine for your business. It should inspire you, motivate you and stimulate you so that you are always working to achieve your dream.

Now that you have a picture of last year; what worked and what didn’t plus, you have revised your mission and vision statement. Clarify your goals. Define exactly what you want to achieve. Be sure it’s achievable and a challenge. Set a deadline to achieve it. Then make sure your business and marketing actions will provide the activities you need to reach the goals you have set.

Does your marketing message create a desire for what you are selling? Does it picture your company as the solution to your target market’s need? Does it state what you will help your clients achieve? Does it make an enticing offer to make a potential client want to call you now? If doesn’t, revise it so that it does.

Does the target market you’ve chosen really have a need for what you are selling? Not sure? Then now is definitely the time to create an ideal client profile. What pain, problem or issue is a potential client experiencing for them to have a need for what you are selling? What are the characteristics of the perfect client? Make a list. Then you’ll know your ideal client when you see them and/or talk to them. You will know who you shouldn’t waste your time on.

You do know what you are selling; right? What it is, what does it do, the features, the benefits, who should buy it, what it helps them achieve? Most importantly you know why a client should buy what you offer instead of buying someone else’s offer.

You must always know who your competition is, their strengths and weaknesses and how your company compares? Do you have a strategy in place to compete with your competition? Do you visually stand apart from your competition?

How do you deliver your marketing message? Remember it’s never good to have all of your eggs in one basket. So your marketing strategy should consist of a variety of public relations, advertising, marketing, networking and promotional activities. Have you created a detailed task list of marketing activities and the dates to implement them?

Have you identified your sales process? How do you convert contacts to suspects, suspects to prospects, prospects to clients? Have created the marketing collateral to ease a contact down the pipeline?

Of course you know it takes money to make money. How much of your revenue are you investing in your business? What’s your marketing budget? How much do you plan to spend on skill building? Yes, you must always improve your skills and tools. You have to stay up with times.

It’s important to realize that change is inevitable as your business grows so, make the necessary changes to your vision and mission statement as needed. You must also realize that success does not happen overnight. It does take work; hard work, a willingness to take a risk or two and of course planning. Everything combined will definitely 2007 your best year ever.

Ten Rules for a Successful Life

Description:

Why are some people more successful than others? Is it just that some people get all the luck and that’s just the way it is? Or is there more to it? Gary Player the famous golfer once said, “The harder I work, the luckier I get” and I think this statement has a lot of truth to it. I believe that success is a mindset and if I’m right, then that means that anyone can achieve it.

If you listen carefully to people you will notice that they become very adept at providing reasons for their ‘bad luck’. It’s the upbringing, the schooling, the boss, the partner and many other reasons including the fact that there are not enough hours in the day (eh?). I’m of the opinion that these limiting beliefs are a way of avoiding the simple truth; some people just don’t want it enough. It’s a lot easier to sit in your lazyboy chair and proclaim to the world that you didn’t get the breaks, than it is to get up and do something about it.

Now I’m not saying that everyone should want to be the best at everything they do, but I do think that those people who decide to live life in the slow lane forego their right to complain about it. If you really care that much then it’s up to you to change things.

So for those people that want to get out of the rut and move on in life, I’ve put together ten rules. If you follow them, I see no reason why success shouldn’t follow.

1. Nobody else is to blame for the way you are. Those things that happen to you (good or bad) simply create choices. You are a product of your own making.

2. The world owes you nothing. If you want the stars, buy your own ladder and climb. Nobody will give you a leg-up.

3. Thinking is not doing. Good luck rarely comes to the inactive. Hard work is a dream-maker.

4. Failure is progress. Every mistake is a step closer to success, as long as you learn from it.

5. Focus on the important things in life. If you spend too long worrying about the small things, that’s all you’ll end up with.

6. Take pride in what you do. There’s no shame in thinking positively about yourself. If you don’t love you, nobody else will.

7. Celebrate success. If it goes right, shout it from the roof-tops. You can learn from good stuff too.

8. Take what works and build on it. If you find success in one area, model it and apply the learning to other areas.

9. Stick with it. There will be moments when it all seems like too much hard work, that’s when you’re getting closer.

10. Share your success with others, there’s enough to go around. Successful people work together and build winning relationships.

There you have it, ten simple steps to achieving your dreams. So stop looking for reasons not to succeed and start working towards your goals. I’ve never once heard an elderly person complain about the things they did in life, but I’ve heard a few regrets about the things they didn’t.

A Few Thoughts On Pricing And The Roll Of Sales And Marketing

Description:

Can give-away products and services." I said. "You're in this profession and company to give us an alternative to that." Some markets are.

Content:

I recall addressing a sales team of mine at an off-site meeting several years ago - we sold multi-million dollar telecom infrastructure equipment. The issue of approved discounts dominated the session..."Anyone can give-away products and services." I said. "You're in this profession and company to give us an alternative to that."

Some markets are more price sensitive than others. But in complex sales, price is rarely the determining issue. Many sales people hate to hear this reality and push their company to continually lower prices.

Price can rise in importance though when value, benefits, difference, and reason to believe are left from the discussion.

Certainly there are markets more price sensitive than others and some companies are weaker on price than others...it doesn't change the reality that our job - sales and marketing professionals - is to mitigate price in our customer's buying criteria and maximize the dollar value of each sale

How to Quadruple Your eBay Auction Sales

Description:

Selling on eBay can be a daunting task. With the right knowledge, your item can stand out.

Content:

eBay is one of the greatest market places on earth. For a small fee, you can put your item in from of the world, literally. With such features, it's no wonder eBay gets millions of new listings a day. If you want to sell, you need to stand out from the crowd. Using the eBay auction site and paying attention can net you some serious money.

The first thing to look at is the title. Don't do the generic capital words like LOOK. This often turns off potential buyers. You have to look the expert part. Use keywords that buyers are using to find your item. If you visit eBay keywords where you can bid for ad placement, you'll easily find out what are the popular words. Remember this: searches only look at the titles, not the subtitles, and not the item page.

Next we'll look at the subtitles. These are important to provide further information that is less important than the title information, but still vital. It could be to clarify the item somewhat, or it could be free shipping, anything of that nature. Searches don't use subtitle words for matches, so you are looking to provide the buyers more information.

Next, we'll discuss the gallery picture. Many don't use it, but it's a fact that it either nets you more sales or more money on an auction, depending on the type of sale. A nice picture of the item you're selling can go a long way.

The item page itself is where the real winners stand out. There are many useful tips here: 1. Always include a picture, preferably a real photo if it's a real item. If it's not software or a service for sale, people want to see a picture of the physical item. 2. Don't make big paragraphs. Big paragraphs make people less like to read them. Make each paragraph 4-5 sentences max. Mix it up with lists, pictures, and tables. You want to make it easy on the eyes and invite users to read. 3. Absolutely don't put blinking text of any sort. 4. State your shipping prices on your main page. People want to know all the information up front. 5. Accept PayPal. Most of the eBay users have PayPal accounts. Many people feel comfortable with paying through PayPal as it is owned by eBay.

Done right, the item page can really sell a user. You want to lay out all the information for the buyer is a nice-looking fashion. Without a doubt, it could sway your sales 25% either way.

Another helpful solution is to look at buyers selling well and view their item pages to see how they flow.

If you sell anything either online or in real life, an eBay auction is a definite solution to more sales. Done right, you can increase your online sales significantly further.

Write A Cover Letter That Rocks

The fact of the matter is that working sucks. No one is really into it just because he wants to. But then again, working is a lot better than asking for loose change. Therefore, a cover letter will be a necessity at least once in your life.

Take note that sending a cover letter to your potential employer denotes your desire to really work for your preferred company as well as your respect for the employer. Meanwhile, not having a cover letter and simply dropping your resume' off translates laziness and you as being impersonal. A lot of private firms avoid such traits.

A cover letter is what?

First things first, it is a letter sent off to your prospective employer, attached with it is the resume.' Take note that a cover letter is important for the following reasons: it allows the particular recipient to know to whom your resume' is for, it also allows you to describe your skills and knowledge better than your resume' could.

Believe it or not, a resume' also allows you to drop some names which you think could get your foot in the door. It is therefore important to produce letters that are brilliant yet at the same time simple and quick. The following are some basic tips and suggestions to make your cover letter rock.

It pays to know

The fact of the matter is that a cover letter needs to be tailored for the employer you are sending it out to. Though you may recycle some basic details, every cover letter must have some reference on the company or employer you are eyeing. As always, ignorance is no excuse. If you know zilch about a company, there is only one thing you should do, and do well.

Research, research, research

It is highly advisable that you know vital business trends or technological updates on your prospective employer. It also pays to know any relevant transactions made recently as well as their trend for hiring people. Knowing their lingo and the common corporate phrases they use gives an added boost to your cover letter and puts you to a good light as someone who is taking the company's vision and mission seriously.

Other basic info that you need for any prospective employers you are planning to send your resume' to is the nature of the business, its major customers and clients, its corporate history, etc.

Though this sounds a lot like work, its because it is work. These efforts will most probably help you land a job. The more the employer knows that you are doing your homework, the likelihood of them thinking that you are a potential candidate.

Such a cover letter already gives you an edge over bland generic cover letters who did not care enough to give and send their very best.

Another detail you need to have is the addressee. Imagine if you receive two letters, the one addressing you as a To Whom it may concern person to one that specifically addresses your name. Which of the two letters would you be interested to read?

All in all, writing a cover letter takes a bit of your time and effort only because you are taking the company you are sending it to quite seriously. Chances are, they will do the same for you too. Good luck!

Trainee Salesman Stumbles on a Cold Fortune

Description:

I read a news item about a janitor who became a commission salesman and within two years bought the apartment block where he had been the janitor. I must try again to become a salesman, and I did

Content:

"Get into selling and make your fortune" the headline seemed to shout at me from the classified page. It went on to explain how anyone could become rich by learning how to sell.

As a gullible young man just out of Military Service and looking for a job, I was hooked on the idea of a sales career despite suffering from a general lack of confidence. On top of that my near panic at the thought that now I had to survive in the big outside world on my own.

No morning bugle call to kindly let me know that breakfast was being served. No more shouting in my ear about the condition of the nice suit of clothes they give you to wear.

Even worse, no more free meals and a bed, the reason I joined up in the first place. I had become institutionalised. From that point forward I would need to think for myself for the first time in years.

Solely on the merits of my Military discharge papers, I landed a job as a trainee salesman with a well-known office machine manufacturer. They kindly sent me to sales training school for a whole month after which you are supposed to be a whiz at selling. Not so for me, because after a couple of months I had managed to sell nothing.

Hugely embarrassed and demoralised, I resigned. However, I continued to hold to the belief that "selling can make your fortune", perhaps because as a kid I had been quite a successful street urchin.

My ideas about selling as a career were reinforced when by chance I read a news item about a janitor who became a commission salesman and within two years bought the apartment block where he had been the janitor.

I must try again to become a salesman, and I did without much success. Most of the direct selling outfits simply gave me a pre-typed script to learn. I tried the scripts, but several of my prospects simply asked me how long had I been doing the job. One even asked me why I was speaking so unnaturally, I wasn't aware of it.

Perhaps I could learn to sell by trying retail in-store sales, I pondered. So moving on to the retail job circuit I secured a job as a trainee. My new boss had a store for each day of the year 365 stores. He sent me as a trainee to a store where I was asked to push the sales of some fridges that had no motors.

I was astonished. How can a fridge have no motor? I asked the store manager for a brochure that might help my understanding of a fridge with no motor, so he dug around under the counter and thrust a bunch of grubby papers into my hand.

"You're supposed to sell them, not read about them" he complained.

Anyway I did read about those fridges, and discovered that they functioned by a heated element instead of a motor. The electrical energy consumption was less than an ordinary light bulb. I found it all quite strange, and simply voiced my amazement about them to everyone who entered the store. Not as an intention to make a sale, but simply because I was actually very impressed with the technology.

However, a strange thing happened: People started buying fridges. Each day more people came to me to ask about them and more sales resulted. Weekly deliveries of fridges to this single store out of 365 stores alerted the Head Office due to the unusual delivery rate.

Incredibly, the company extended the premises to accommodate more fridges. I have often wondered how they filled that new space when I moved on to pastures new.

Since then I have successfully sold just about everything under the sun, including double glazing, windows, home improvements and several years in Life Insurance. I learned some truly fascinating secrets on selling and how to sell effortlessly.

As a beginner you need to learn the two most important ingredients for selling which if mastered will enable anyone to be proficient in sales: Enthusiasm and Product Knowledge. The third ingredient will be borne of the above two which is "confidence".

Armed with enthusiasm for a product and thorough Product Knowledge, you will surely gain confidence. Most of your prospects will not see you as just another sales person but as an expert they can trust. Why will they trust you? Because as you should have discovered yourself in life that it is always apparent when someone knows what they are talking about, You know instinctively when a person is telling you the truth. You also learn to know instinctively when someone is talking nonsense.

Now here is a truth: People will only buy from those they trust.

Truly "Selling" is easy, when you know how. Naturally, I moved up in my sales career and bought my own stores. Selling the very product I found impossible to sell just a few years earlier, Office Machines.

I can never forget a major sale I made a few years ago to the Managing Director of a large corporation. He bought a very expensive product and gave me his company cheque there and then without question.

However, just as he was leaving he mentioned that one of my competitors WGS was selling the exact same product at ten percent less. Being a bit puzzled, I asked him why he did not buy it from WGS.

"Because I preferred to buy from you" He replied.

There you have it, as you must surely know deep down, even from your own experiences: People will only buy from those they trust. You will only earn their trust by learning all that you can about the product you want to sell. Become an "expert" in the product and you will also become a super-sales person.

When you are able to talk naturally to your prospects you will also be able to answer all their questions with enthusiasm, without hesitation, and they will be impressed by your product knowledge.

Becoming an Actor or Actress

Although there are many people interested in pursing acting, the profession is not an easy one to break into. Actors and actresses often have to attend special drama schools or academies in order to gain the knowledge and experience it takes to break into the profession. Attending one of these schools also helps the actor or actress gain recognition as he or she participates in productions put on by the school.

Those that are not actors or actresses generally do not know that there are actually several different types of acting approaches that an actor may specialize in. In the United States, the most popular method of acting is the inside out technique, which involves trying to gain an understanding of the character being portrayed. This includes understanding the character's motives and background and how these factors affect the character's outward behavior.

Attending Acting School

When an aspiring actor or actress attends a drama school or acting conservatory, he or she generally takes two to three years of intense training in the art of acting. At Universities, on the other hand, programs typically last three or four years rather than two or three. In addition, the student may study other aspects of theater in addition to the art of acting itself. Those who attend a university to study acting can expect to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree upon successful completion of the program.

Completing a university program can be very beneficial when it comes to boosting an actor or actresses career. In fact, at the end of the last year, most universities stage performances to which casting directors and agents are invited. In this way, soon-to-be graduates can begin working toward a future in acting.

In order to be accepted into a drama program or into an acting conservatory, aspiring actors and actresses must first complete an audition. If the potential student shows promise, he or she will be admitted into the program. Typically, anyone over the age of 18 is eligible to attend a drama school, though there are some that will accept aspiring actors and actresses at a younger age.

Many of us have thought about it as we sit around at home after a long forty hour workweek.

The thought of owning our own business on the Internet has captured the entrepreneur spirit in many of us.

The available probabilities for making money on the Internet has never been better. Everyday, more and more people throughout the world are connecting to the Internet with the sole purpose of creating a Internet Home Based Business.

To consider starting an Internet business from home, you must first assume the active role of "Entrepreneur".

An entrepreneur is one who "Organizes a business undertaking, assuming the risk for the sake of the profit".

Before establishing any business, you must clearly understand that there is potential risk that you will be acquiring, to possibly make a profit with no guarantee.

Risks can be considered as; money spent, precious time consumed, loyal dedication, shortage of regular sleep, absence of social activities, and any other sacrifices that might occur when building your business from the ground up.

Profits can be considered as; wealth, successfully achieving your goals, being able to forsake working for an employer, spending more time with loved ones, or just being able to clearly establish a successful business.

Everyone must understand ahead of time the phrase, "Paying your dues". Sometimes the challenges of effectively starting a new business may initially appear overwhelming, but you clearly need to take it on, one step at a time.

Starting an Internet business without any prior experience can be one's biggest challenges.

One of the simplest, and most profitable Internet businesses today, are the ones that supply demanded pertinent information.

Most people today who log onto the Internet are seeking relevant information on, how-to answer their questions, or, how-to resolve their problems.

Supplying relevant information to your established clients is worth its weight in gold. Think about it for a moment. Have you ever had a question regarding an important matter? When you successfully found the information that resolved your problem, you were most likely satisfied with that source who provided you with that knowledge.

Starting a content home-based Internet business is fairly easy. First, you clearly need to choose a particular subject that you may have some knowledge about. Do some research to find out the popularity of the subject you selected.

If you are not actually well informed on any particular subject, here again, do some research on the Internet. Select a particular subject that you may obviously enjoy that will provide relevant information for your website visitors.

Lets say that you are not great when it comes to writing informative articles, and clash with the thought of writing articles by yourself. No problem! There are literally hundreds of article websites that will provide you with excellent relevant content for free. The topics and authors are plentiful, they will be more than delighted to supply you with excellent informative articles for you website content.

When using article supply websites, keep in mind that you will be required to follow their publishing guidelines. The guidelines mostly consist of contributing attributes to the author's article that you may utilize. One of the most important guidelines you will especially need to follow and observe is the rules and regulations regarding SPAM. Each article distribution site has their own publishing guidelines, make sure you read and acknowledge their
requirements.

Creating a website will be your next task to undertake. This subject may seem a little challenging to someone who understands little about creating a website for the first time. Presently, there are many user friendly web hosting companies that will adequately provide a novice with all the tools they will need to successfully create a professional looking website. The vast majority of these hosting companies also provide excellent twenty-four hour customer support, along with informative on-line tutorials to professionally assist your building process.

Most website hosting providers also supply you with a large selection of templates, which will allow you to select a theme for your website that reflects your business plan.

After you have successfully accomplished creating your website, actively focus your efforts on selecting relevant articles that pertain to your website. Keep in mind, that you will regularly be able to update and tweek your site when required. Select your articles with care and a definite purpose. Remember, people are searching the Internet to resolve their problems, or to efficiently acknowledge their questions. If you site can successfully support these people and resolve their problems, you will have a client that will return.

The next step is to how do you effectively earn money furnishing information? One of the simplest ways is becoming a registered affiliate. An affiliate is an individual or website that markets other companies products. Example, as an affiliate, you will have banners or text links on your site, when clicked by a client, they will be redirected to the advertisers site. If that client purchases a product from that site, you will receive the commission that was agreed upon.

Selecting the proper affiliate programs are very important to the well being of your business. Make sure to consider your selections carefully. The advertisers that you select for your site should be well established and creditable, plus be willing to assist your affiliate needs.

Next, you will clearly need to promote you website. The least inexpensive way is to creatively write informative articles that are relevant to your site. Take some time to think about your future customers, what questions might they have? Write articles on themes of particular interest, that pertain to your website. The articles should be informative and beneficial. When writing articles, try to reflect your personality within the article, people have a tendency to follow authors because of their style, flair, and relevant knowledge that they demonstrate.

The articles you write can be submitted free to most article supply sites. When these sites approve your article they will ask you to provide your attributes, this is where your site will be linked. People seeking more information will click the link and visit your site.

The next step to promoting your site will be to submit your website to the search engines. There are some free submission sites, but most will ask you to upgrade for a fee. Most upgrade programs are well worth the small fees charged. They typically will submit your website address to all the major search engines, plus, assist you with keyword selection tools, and supply you with information on how to improve your rankings within the search engines, which is very important.

The last subject to discuss, the importance of an autoresponder. An autoresponder will become a twenty-four hour attendant for your website.

Most good autoresponder programs will adequately provide numerous functions to assist you to manage your website efficiently.

First, autoresponder programs normally provide: daily subscription management, reports and statistics, opt-in form templates, integration of CAN-SPAM compliance checks, newsletter message campaigns to opt-in subscribers, message personalization, ad tracking, and a host of other features to professionally assist you while developing your subscriber base. Many autoresponder companies offer toll-free phone support, plus free tutorial video's about using their program.

Autoresponders are great tools and a must-have if your are considering an E-business. The precious time saved by automation, plus, all the significant information that will be adequately furnished to you regarding your clients, is all worth the cost.
